Why is it taking Zelle so long to process?
Money sent with Zelle® is typically available to an enrolled recipient within minutes1. If it has been more than three days, we recommend confirming that you have fully enrolled your Zelle® profile, and that you entered the correct email address or U.S. mobile number and provided this to the sender.
First, check the payment status within your payment activity in your bank's online or mobile service, or within the Zelle® app. If the payment status is pending, the recipient may not have enrolled their mobile number or email address to receive the payment. At this point, you have the option to cancel the payment.
There may be an issue with the email address or mobile number they have enrolled with Zelle®. You may verify with the Recipient they have fully enrolled with the email address or mobile number you are trying to send money, and have opted into receive notification.
After enrollment, it may take between 1 and 3 business days for your recipient to receive their first payment. This is a security feature of Zelle designed to protect you when you're sending or receiving money with Zelle.
We know it can be concerning if your recipient hasn't received the funds you sent. Typically, funds are sent within minutes. However, they can take one to two (1-2) business days for the payment to process.
Does Zelle® limit how much I can send or request? You can send up to $2,500 per day with Zelle®. There are no limits on how much you can request with Zelle®, but keep in mind that people sending you money may have limits set by their own financial institutions.
These two institutions tell us that the daily limit to send money through Zelle is $3,500, although if you usually send money monthly, the maximum you can transfer will be $20,000.
Money sent with Zelle is typically available to an enrolled recipient within minutes1. If you send money to someone who isn't enrolled with Zelle, they will receive a notification prompting them to enroll. After enrollment, the money will move directly to your recipient's account, typically within minutes1.
What happens if money is transferred but not received? If money is transferred but not received, the sender should contact the bank or service used to initiate the transfer to track the transaction. They can also contact the recipient's bank to inquire if the funds have been received.
Why? There are a couple of reasons you may not be able to enroll your U.S. mobile number: It is already enrolled with Zelle® at a different bank or credit union. The phone number you provided is not a U.S. mobile number (international numbers and landlines are not accepted)
What happens when Zelle is processing?
If your payment is pending, we recommend confirming that the person you sent money to has enrolled with Zelle and that you entered the correct email address or U.S. mobile phone number. If you're waiting to receive money, you should check to see if you've received a payment notification via email or text message.
Can I cancel a payment? You can only cancel a payment if the recipient hasn't yet enrolled with Zelle®. You can go to your activity page within the Zelle® experience, either within your mobile banking app or the Zelle® app, choose the payment you want to cancel, and then select “Cancel This Payment.”
Ask recipients to enroll with Zelle® before you send them money. This will help expedite funds delivery. If the recipient is not enrolled with Zelle®, it may take between 1-3 business days after the recipient has enrolled for the money to be available.
Wait a few days: Waiting 24 hours or 30 days until you are back under Zelle's payment limits is the slowest strategy, but it may be necessary if you want to send a large payment.
Will Zelle Refund Money If You've Been Scammed? In most cases, the answer is no. Peer-to-peer payment systems like Zelle (along with Cash App and Venmo) treat transactions like cash — meaning there's no way to cancel a Zelle payment once it's been sent.
You can check the payment status in your Zelle® Activity. In some cases, payments may be delayed or blocked for your protection.
How Long Does It Take Zelle to Review a Payment? Payments made with Zelle are typically made available within a couple of minutes, but that's not always the case. Depending on your financial institution, it could take up to 3 days.
Recipient is not a Wells Fargo customer? No problem. You don't need to be a Wells Fargo customer to send or receive Zelle® payments. Your contact needs to be enrolled with Zelle® through their bank or the Zelle® app.
Note that once you initiate your payment, money will be deducted from your available balance and placed on hold until the recipient enrolls. If your recipient does not enroll within 14 days of when the money is sent, the money is released back to your account, and the transaction is cancelled.
